The island’s infrastructure sustained heavy damage which has compromised delivery of aid to the region. The storm also decimated crops and livestock which has resulted in critical food shortages.

Working with several other South Florida transportation companies, Comet Delivery stepped up to deliver vital supplies to some of the hardest hit areas of the island. Steven Seltzer, president of Comet Delivery and the Florida Messenger Association, detailed the process: “Goods are collected from local pickup stations and palletized at a South Florida warehouse. Comet consolidates the shipments and loads them onto a vessel headed for Haiti.” As part of this ongoing effort, the company has already shipped a tractor-trailer load of supplies and is currently preparing another 172 pallets of supplies for shipping.

“In the aftermath of this storm, so many Haitian residents are in dire need of basic supplies. We welcomed the opportunity to get involved and provide some relief,” Seltzer said. “As a business, we’ve always felt it was important to be a good neighbor, not just at the local level but globally. Because of our resources and expertise and our access to PortMiami, we are in a unique position to really make a difference,” he added.
