Comet Delivery Services CEO Steven Seltzer was recently inducted as president of the Florida Messenger Association (FMA),

one of the largest regional messenger associations in the country. A founding member of this influential organization, Seltzer took a minute to discuss the FMA’s role in the industry, how it benefits Comet customers, and his plans for the year ahead. His term begins in February 2016 after the organization’s annual convention.

Q. How long have you been a member of the Florida Messenger Association?

A. I am one of the FMA’s original founding members and was the organization’s first treasurer. We established the association in 1989.

Q. In what ways does the organization work to benefit business owners and consumers in the region?

A. The delivery industry is the backbone of the American economy. By adhering to the highest set of standards for honesty and reliability, we help ensure that the goods every manufacturer, wholesaler, retailer and consumer orders are delivered when and where they are supposed to be, thus keeping the wheels of commerce turning!

Q. What are some critical issues facing the messenger, courier, and transportation services industry right now?

A. Driver shortages are a monumental issue. On a daily basis, drivers must endure changing road conditions, weather, traffic, vehicle maintenance and a slew of other challenges. All the while, drivers — who are in business for themselves — are responsible for operating their own profitable delivery business.

Q. During your term as FMA president, what initiatives do you have planned for the year ahead?

A. There are a number of important goals we will be targeting in 2016. They include:

  • Increasing our membership by reaching out to other business owners around the state and explaining the benefits of joining the FMA.
  • Promoting networking within our organization. There is an untapped source of business we can share with each other in our respective territories and niches.
  • Maintaining the programs we have already started which are geared to helping us grow our business while maintaining the highest levels of customer satisfaction and quality.

I am really excited about the possibilities for the FMA in 2016 and am looking forward to helping our members and vendors reap the optimum benefit from our association.
