After more than 48 years in the industry, Comet Delivery has seen — and shipped — it all. From shopping carts to stingrays, we’ve transported nearly anything you can imagine. But one of our most recent projects was a big deal. Really big.
Our client, who specializes in cargo vessel supplies, needed to replace massive rusted flat racks corroded by the ocean air with new ones. The racks have a myriad of uses and are especially suitable for shipping bulky heavy equipment and materials such as machinery, pipes, coiled wires, cables and drums. Each rack we handled measured 20 feet by 8 feet by 6 feet high and weighed about 3,000 lbs.
“New racks were fabricated in China and shipped by ocean freight to PortMiami. We unloaded the racks from the container and transferred them onto a flatbed trailer which we then delivered to the ship for installation.” Comet Delivery president Steven Seltzer, further explained, “But we weren’t done yet. We stayed on-site and loaded the old racks onto our flatbed and took them to be sold for scrap metal.”
“The entire project took less than 24 hours from the time the container hit the Miami shoreline until we offloaded the scrap metal.”
